Bentley and Maya 2022 Newsletter

Updated: Jan 31, 2023

The Pups have had a wonderful summer this year with lots of walks in the evenings when it was slightly cooler and more pup friendly. Having said that Maya loves nothing more than lying out on the decking in the full sun, whereas Bentley prefers to position himself in the shade and snooze with a gentle breeze in his face and always making sure Maya is not far away from his side.

They've had so many trips away both in the UK and Europe throughout the year. The Peak District, The Malvern hills, The Lake District where they climbed Scafell Pike with us, some 978 metres above sea level, it was tough going but they took it in their stride, stopping occasionally to drink from the fresh water falls coming down off the peaks and lots of tasty treats that we packed for them. It is one of the highest mountains in England.

We also climbed Pen Y Fan together and again reached the summit, it was very windy but they enjoyed it, as did we.

We spent a week in Loch Lomond and also The Cotswolds to name a few and have only recently returned from their month long trip in Tuscany.

This was their 3rd trip to Tuscany which they love, staying at different hotels and ancient castles en-

route to our villa, they are very used to being away and always behave impeccably.

We chose the Eurotunnell to travel with them as its so easy to get to France quickly. You arrive at the terminal, their microchips are scanned, paperwork cleared and very quickly we're on our way. We thought that with Brexit and the fact that their for life Pet Passports were now invalid, it would be quite a difficult process, but after having rabies boosters and health checks, health certificates were issued each they were set to go. We drove through France taking a quick overnight stop in St Quentin then on to Switzerland staying at a hotel overlooking Lake Geneva. In the morning we leisurely drove on, making a quick detour on to the Gotthard Pass which is extremely high up in the mountains and often impassable due to the snow and such narrow roads up and down.

It's certainly not for the feint hearted, but for someone who loves driving as my husband does, it's a drivers dream!

At the top of the Gotthard Pass we stopped to have our usual Cappuccino and cake and predictably we were welcomed by the sight of snow on the mountain falling silently.

The Pups were excited to see the snow and rolled around and played in it for some time. It certainly broke the journey for them. The lake was frozen over so you can imagine how cold it was up there. 35 degrees at the bottom and minus 16 at the top.

We travelled on for the next day or two through the stunning Tuscan hills and finally we arrived early in the afternoon.

This picture below was taken at our villa in Tuscany which is surrounded with hectares of beautiful olive groves, all the trees heavily ladened with ripening olives and far reahing views to die for. Here the pups could roam freely and apart from the huge birds soaring overhead, there is no-one for miles. Funnily enough they tend not to go in the swimming pool here

.....Far too clean!

As you can see they dont get too stressed travelling as long as they are with us, they are happy.

Maya loves to sniff out the lizards that hide away in the stone built walls around the pool but needless to say she never catches them but enjoys the chase.

They always love cooling off in the babbling river, retrieving a stick together in a peaceful lake or swimming for sticks in the sea. Its only the last couple of years in fact that they decided they liked water at all. Before it was anything that was black and muddy they enjoyed plodging in but never the water.

Far too wet!

Bentley and Maya have travelled with us since they were just 16 weeks old and it was that very first trip away to Lynton and Lynmouth staying at the Bath Hotel that started me writing about their adventures.

The Pups Go To Lynton and Lynmouth is a true life story written through the pups eyes, its filled with lots of mischief and huge dollops of cuteness along with many true life-lessons for little ones in it. It has wonderful colour illustrations and is very suitable for all ages, whether you are reading to your child or your child is a confident reader. You are sure to be enthralled!

The Italian people absolutely love the pups and treat them extremely well wherever they go! Luckily the pups love pasta so when chefs ask us if they'd like some pasta, the reply is always Yes!! They were very often presented with huge platters of cold meats and cheeses by the chefs (Oh to be a Pup!!)

Simply going out for a coffee or lunch with the pups has never been a quick thing to do as they are like magnets for the young, the old and everyone in between, all wanting to know their names and ages and if they are siblings, inevitably the final question is to ask to have a picture taken with them. The Pups love the attention and if there's a hug thrown in too then they're even happier!

This picture was taken on the island of Elba on a particularly hot day, but dont worry as they both have protection on their feet from the heat of the pavements.

The Pups really love all of the four seasons but their very favourite is the Summer month.
